The
\nMobiling & Designing Project (MoDe Project for short) is known
\nas the socio-media studies on designing mobile media culture and
\nliteracy.
\nThis venture is based in the
\nInterfaculty Initiative in Information Studies (iii)<\/a>,
\nthe
\nUniversity of Tokyo<\/a>, Japan.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe MoDe Project, is an experiment in a new type of media research
\nlinking analytical humanities and social scientific research to
\ncreative experimental research in fields such as media literacy,
\ninformation design, and media art.
\nThis coordinated project also includes efforts to nurture public media
\nliteracy on mobile media, as well as the development and implementation
\nof practical programs (educational materials, curricula, workshop,
\netc.) in order to reinvigorate public communication.\n<\/p>\n

\nIn 2008-2010, in cooperation with KDDI R&D Labs<\/a>, the MoDe project has participated in a collaborative research scheme titled “Qualitative and design approach to telecommunication culture and literacy”. <\/p>\n

\nIn 2006-2007, this project was supported by the research grant from the Okawa
\nFoundation for Information and Telecommunications<\/a>.
\nThe title is “Critical Media Practice on Nordic Mobile Culture: from
\nthe Standpoint of Comparative Culture Study between Nordic Countries
\nand Japan”.\n<\/p>\n

\nIn 2004-2005 academic year, this project was supported by the research
\ngrant from the NTT DoCoMo
\nMobile Society Research Institute (Moba-Ken)<\/a>,
\nwhich was established in 2004 to conduct social-science research into
\nthe “light” and “shadow” of mobile society.
\n

\nMizukoshi<\/a>, the project leader,
\nserves on the board member of this institute.\n<\/p>\n
